Cynthia Esquivel, 20, of Dos Palos, California, is being remembered after a vehicle crash near Island Road and Emory Road reportedly claimed her life on Saturday evening, September 19, 2026.
The incident was reported around 8:18 p.m. after people taking part in off-road recreation in the area discovered a vehicle that had overturned and ended up submerged in a water-filled canal.
According to the reported account, the vehicle was a 2024 Chevrolet traveling south along the eastern side of the canal. It reportedly made an unsafe turn before leaving the roadway and entering the water.
The vehicle overturned after entering the canal and became submerged.
Bystanders Help With Rescue
People who were nearby reportedly entered the canal to help remove occupants from the vehicle before emergency crews arrived.
