Seventeen-year-old LePaul Warren, a senior at Westbury High School, died Friday morning, September 25, 2026, after being shot near the Houston campus.
The shooting happened around 8:20 a.m. near Dryad Drive and Chimney Rock Road in southwest Houston. Police found Warren suffering from gunshot wounds, and he later died from his injuries. His family identified him as the victim.
Westbury Senior and Athlete Remembered
Warren was in his final year at Westbury High School and was known in the school community as a student-athlete.
He played varsity football as a wide receiver and competed on the varsity basketball team as a shooting guard. He also represented Westbury in track and field competitions in the Houston area.
His death has left classmates, teammates, teachers and relatives mourning a teenager whose high school years were cut short.
Police Continue Houston Shooting Investigation
Investigators believe Warren had an interaction with another person shortly before the shooting. According to reports, someone came from a nearby wooded area, an exchange of words took place and gunfire followed.
The shooter remained unidentified and at large as authorities continued working to determine what happened and who was responsible.
Houston police were assisted by additional Texas Department of Public Safety personnel as officers searched the surrounding area and gathered evidence.
Following the shooting, Westbury High School increased security measures. The school’s scheduled homecoming football game was also canceled.
