Denton, Maryland, is mourning the death of Police Chief George William Bacorn Jr., a longtime law-enforcement officer who spent decades serving the community.
Bacorn died Friday, September 25, 2026, following a motor-vehicle collision in Maryland. He had served as Denton’s police chief for decades and was a familiar figure to residents and fellow officers.
Fatal Crash in Maryland
The reported collision occurred on Maryland Route 331 near Dover Neck Road in Talbot County around 11:30 a.m.
According to the information provided, Bacorn was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe when the crash occurred. A westbound Ford Transit delivery truck reportedly crossed the center line, struck a Chevrolet Silverado and then collided head-on with Bacorn’s vehicle.
Bacorn was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the delivery truck was taken by air to a trauma center.
The precise circumstances of the collision remain under investigation, and further findings are expected as authorities continue reviewing the crash.
George Bacorn’s Years of Service
Bacorn was closely associated with the Denton Police Department, where he served as chief for 36 years.
His long career made him one of the most recognizable public servants in the town. Earlier in 2026, the Town of Denton recognized him for 35 years of service during a Town Council meeting.
His death has prompted condolences from members of the police department, town officials and the wider Denton community.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore also paid tribute to Bacorn and ordered flags lowered to half-staff in his honor, according to local reporting.
